Super Bowl Champion DB at Risk of Being Cut

The Los Angeles Rams could save some money by cutting a member of their 2021 Super Bowl team.

NFL.com's Matt Okada released a list of some of the top release candidates for the 2025 offseason, including Rams cornerback Darious Williams.

Williams was an undrafted free agent out of UAB in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Baltimore Ravens first signed him before being waived and signed by the Rams.

His first stint with the team was from 2018-21. Williams was released following the Super Bowl-winning season in 2021 and signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He spent two seasons with the Jaguars before returning to the Rams in 2024.

"The Rams sit squarely in the middle of the league in terms of projected cap space, with $38.3 million, so they won’t necessarily be desperate to make cuts, but if they are looking for value moves, cornerback Darious Williams could be a consideration for release (coincidentally, right around his 32nd birthday, on March 15)," Okada said.

Williams is in the second season of a three-year contract worth $22.5 million, per Spotrac. If the Rams decide to cut him before June 1, they would save $3.8 million.

In his first stint with the Rams, Williams recorded six interceptions, 130 total tackles and five TFLs. His numbers declined last season, with one interception, 45 total tackles and one TFL.

Williams' second stint with the Rams did not get off to the best of starts. The 31-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in summer camp that kept him from playing in the first four games of the 2024 season.

His first game was the Oct. 6 meeting against the Green Bay Packers. Once he fully recovered from the injury, he played in every game for the Rams.
