Just days after training camp opened up, the Cleveland Browns lost a veteran member of their defense to retirement.
In 2015, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Jordan Hicks with the 84th pick. The former All-American at Texas had a nice run in the City of Brotherly Love and was a member of their Super Bowl team in 2017.
Hicks left the Eagles in 2019 to sign a four-year, $36 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals. He then had a two-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings before taking his talents to Cleveland.
On Friday morning, Hicks announced that his NFL journey has come to an end.
"After 23 years of playing football, I'm officially retiring from the NFL," Hicks wrote in his statement. "Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Purpose, discipline, brotherhood, and a platform to impact others. But most importantly, it showed me who I am outside the game.
"I leave this chapter with deep gratitude for every lesson, challenge, and victory. I'm proud of what I accomplished on the field, but even more proud of the man I've become because of it. To my teammates, coaches, fans, and most importantly my family, thank you for your unwavering support throughout this journey. I'm looking forward to this next season of life and all that it brings. I walk away with peace knowing I gave football all I had, and that the best is yet to come."
At the end of Hicks' retirement letter, he let his fans know that "the best is yet to come."
Hicks will finish his NFL career with 952 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 13 interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries. His best years were in Arizona and Philadelphia.
We wish Hicks all the best in retirement.
