The Super Bowl LIX halftime show broke a viewership record in February 2025 despite having a performer go off script.

A performer by the name of Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu ran across the field at the Caesars Superdome with a flag that read "Sudan and Free Gaza." It wasn't until this Monday, however, that he was detained for his actions.

"Though Nantambu was authorized to be on the field, he deviated from his assigned role when he held up the flag while standing on the roof of a car used as a prop in the performance, according to the Louisiana State Police," the Associated Press reported. "He then jumped off the stage and started running. Security and law enforcement personnel ran after him, and he refused to comply with their commands to stop, the state police said. Nantambu surrendered to authorities after an arrest warrant was obtained, the agency said."

Nantambu, 41, was found guilty of resisting an officer. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

"We appreciate the chief judge's careful consideration of the evidence and the decision to hold this individual accountable for resisting law enforcement officers who work every day to protect our communities," Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said.

How severe will Nantambu's punishment be?

According to the attorney general's office, Nantambu will be sentenced on June 1. He could face up to six months in prison.

The NFL, meanwhile, wasted no time announcing a final punishment for Nantambu. It turns out he received a lifetime ban from all NFL events.

It's worth noting Nantambu has been listed as a victim in a separate case involving a shooting at a celebrity boxing event.
