Super Bowl LIX Predictions: Who Will Win Between the Chiefs & Eagles?

For most of the 1980s and 1990s, picking a winner in the Super Bowl was not a difficult proposition. One conference or the other was usually much better (most often the NFC) and so the game itself was mostly a foregone conclusion. In the 80s, eight out of the 10 Super Bowls were two-score games, and six were three or more scores. Eight out of 10 were two-score games in the 90s, two, and five were three-score.

While there were two big wins to start the 2020s, the last three Super Bowls have been especially tight, all three decided by a field goal, including 2024’s dramatic overtime win by the Chiefs over the 49ers.

Trying to pick the 2025 Super Bowl is proving difficult, too. The Chiefs and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes are favored to win their third straight championship, but only by a hair’s breadth. According to Vegas Insider, of eight major sports books, five have the Chiefs favored by 1.5 points, and three have them as 1.0-point favorites.

So, who do you trust on making your pick? Let’s have a look at how different groups are picking, starting with former players.

Super Bowl 2025: The players' picks

Lions great Barry Sanders says EAGLES: “Let me go with Saquon (Barkley). I feel like the Eagles might have more playmakers. … Maybe they have more motivation this time around. So I’ll go with Saquon and the Eagles.”

Outspoken wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is going EAGLES: "I have the Eagles beating the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-28. Jalen Hurts leads the charge, driving down the field in the final two minutes to take the lead, and that's how it all ends."

Former Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi, though, has three Super Bowl rings and has the CHIEFS: "Super Bowl prediction. Harrison Butker for the win. Chiefs by three."

Quarterback Kurt Warner, a Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champ is going EAGLES: “I am leaning towards the Eagles to win this football game. I think there’s more ways in which they can win. … I believe the Eagles are the better team. I believe the Eagles are going to stop history.”

And Drew Brees, also a Super Bowl champ, has the EAGLES, too, because they have more to lose: “To me if you say, who has the most to lose? I think it’s the Philadelphia Eagles. So, in that conversation of, the most desperate team usually wins, who is the most desperate team?"

Chiefs-Eagles predictions from the broadcasters

All right, if you don’t like the former players’ angles, how about some well-known media observers?

Start with legendary broadcaster Brent Musberger . He’s backing the CHIEFS, by a 27-24 count: “Taylor Swift makes it 15 straight Kelce victories when watching live. Three-peat, baby.”

Another legendary broadcaster, Chris “The Swami” Berman of ESPN, has the exact same score as Musberger, 27-24, CHIEFS: “Maybe I'm also a softie for a three-peat, which somehow I've done in this column. If the Swami can do it, I figured the Chiefs can, too.”

Rich Eisen, host of “The Rich Eisen Show,” is also all-in for the CHIEFS: “I think that the Chiefs are winning this football game, and they’re winning it with another 30-burger, I actually have them putting 32 points up. I have a 32-26 final, I don’t know why, this score just came to me.”

Computer models make their picks

The lines are clear, then: broadcasters are leaning toward the Chiefs, and former players are leaning toward the Eagles. Finally, let’s turn to technology.

One popular computer model is the ESPN FPI model, and that is going pretty firmly toward the EAGLES, with a 56.2% chance to pull off the upset. The Chiefs have a 43.8% chance to win their third straight, FPI says.

Another well-known model comes from Odds Shark, which is also seeing an EAGLES win, and a pretty handy one at that. According to the site, Philly will win, 26-19.

Finally, there is the model from The Athletic, which is seeing the game differently from the other two models—it has the CHIEFS winning by the slimmest of margins, with a 50.8% chance of winning, slightly ahead of 49.2 for the Eagles.

The point spread should indicate that this is, indeed, expected to be a tight game. It’s not an easy one to pick, but at least there are plenty of opinions to glean as you make your choice.
