Tank Bigsby shows exactly why the Philadelphia Eagles traded for him

The Philadelphia Eagles confused many fans when they traded for running back Tank Bigsby at the start of the season, but on Sunday, he put the confusion to rest.

In the Eagles ' 38-20 win over the New York Giants, Bigsby rushed nine times for 104 yards, finishing right behind Saquon Barkley's 150-yard rushing day.

"I think what you see with Tank, obviously, there’s a reason we traded for him," head coach Nick Sirianni said. "A really explosive runner, and you see that. We see that all the time in practice. As he’s caught up to our system and everything that we do and learning it, he’s gotten more opportunities and it’s been fun to see him run with the football."

Prior to the Eagles' Week 8 win, Bigsby had played just one other game on offense. His other chances came on special teams, which weren't too pretty.

"I wouldn’t say it’s a surprise with how he looked today because we obviously saw that in Jacksonville, the reason why [Executive Vice President/General Manager] Howie [Roseman] went and got him, and then we see it in practice every day where you’re like, ‘Hey, we’ve got to get this guy some touches.’ He’s made the most of these opportunities," Sirianni said. "I mean, I think he’s averaging over 10 yards a carry in two games now. Not a ton of carries as of yet, but we know we can count on him because he can run violently, he can make you miss, he’s explosive, and he can hit a home run. I’m excited about what he brings to the table."

Tank Bigsby would play tight end if Philly needed him to

Being patient is a mental game that Bigsby has gotten way too good at, and it definitely paid off for him on Sunday.

“You wait until you get your opportunity, you know what I’m saying?” Bigsby said about his patience after only getting one carry in the first seven weeks. “Just when you get your opportunity, you go out and be who you are, just keep being a great team player. Coach needed me on teams. Coach needed me at running back. If coach needed me at tight end, I would probably go out there and play tight end, whatever it is. So just being the best team player I can be.”

Heading into the Eagles' Bye week, Bigsby has rushed 10 times for 115 yards in Philly. After a performance like Sunday's, there's no doubt that he can expect more opportunities in his near future.
