You'd think going No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft is a huge honor. In Terry Bradshaw's case, it was a bit of an inconvenience.
Before he became a legendary quarterback with four Super Bowl rings, Bradshaw was an intriguing prospect from Louisiana Tech. The Steelers were clearly intrigued by what they saw from him at the collegiate level.
Leading up to this year's NFL Draft, the Steelers took a trip down memory lane with Bradshaw. The Hall of Famer admit that he was "mad" that Pittsburgh selected him with the top pick in the 1970 draft.
Bradshaw didn't have an issue with the Steelers as an organization. He simply thought he wouldn't come off the draft board until the third round. In fact, he was so sure of it that he was ready to go fishing.
Bradshaw's father, however, wouldn't let him go fishing. Instead, he made his son clean up his appearance and wait for his name to be called.
"The draft was no big deal back then. I thought I would go in the third or fourth round. It wasn't on television. I was going fishing. I had my truck, and I was pulling out of the driveway and my dad stopped me and said where are you going? I told him I was going fishing," Bradshaw told the Steelers. "He told me it was draft day, and he heard from the Bears. I told him I wasn't going until the third or fourth round. He told me you get out and you clean up. I was mad. I went and put on a jacket and tie for my dad. And then I got drafted number one.
"My dad had received a phone call earlier that morning from the (Bears) Halas family saying they were trying to make a trade for me. I didn't find out about this until later. Then my dad talked to the Steelers, and they said they weren't going to trade and keep the rights. It was just mumbo-jumbo to me. You figure out what you are going to do, and I am going to go fishing."
It's safe to say everything worked out in the end for Bradshaw. Besides, he has plenty of time to go fishing now if he wants to
