Nick Chubb and the Houston Texans face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10 for an AFC South showdown. They're looking to bounce back after losing to the Denver Broncos 18-15 last week.
Against Denver, Chubb was limited to just 34 yards and zero touchdowns on 11 carries. However, in his first season with the Texans, he's established himself as the team's top rushing option.
At 3-5, they're third in the division and trending toward missing the playoffs for the first time since 2022. Despite dealing with injuries the past two seasons, appearing in just 10 games total in 2023 and 2024, the four-time Pro Bowler has appeared in all eight of Houston's matchups.
However, on Wednesday, the Texans announced their first Week 10 injury report, and Chubb was listed as a non-participant due to a foot injury.
Through eight games this season, the four-time Pro Bowler leads Houston in carries (91), yards (355) and touchdowns (two). He's also hauled in 10 receptions for 45 yards on 15 targets.
Not having Chubb against the Jaguars would be a major setback. Jacksonville's defense already ranks third in rushing yards per game allowed (86.9). Missing their top running back available makes things even harder.
To make matters worse, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, head coach DeMeco Ryans already ruled quarterback C.J. Stroud out after suffering a concussion against the Broncos.
The Texans have two more practices before taking on the Jaguars. Whether Chubb's foot injury can progress in the right direction will be an indicator of whether he can play.
Houston hosts Jacksonville (5-3) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
