In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans needed to address a few areas of their defense, and some of that was largely depth areas. It was evident that the cornerback position needed some work, so they drafted Kamari Lassiter in the second round, a promising cornerback from Georgia.
They also signed a few veteran guys like C.J. Henderson and Jeff Okudah, two guys who were former top-10 picks -- Okudah for the Detroit Lions, and Henderson for the Jacksonville Jaguars. For Okudah, he has been a fine depth piece, as he has had some ups and downs. Henderson didn't play a snap for the Texans and is actually currently on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But for Lassiter, he was a guy that many thought would be a project in year one, and productive in year two. Forget all of that, he's productive in year one, and maybe the best rookie cornerback in the league. He and Calen Bullock have kind of taken over the rookie defensive back conversation.
On Saturday,m in their win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Lassiter had a huge game. He was locking up the Chargers' second-best receiver, Quentin Johnston, every single play. And, he even had an interception, putting him in elite company with J.J. Watt -- yes you read that right.
Here is what the Texans PR team tweeted out about Lassiter during the game:
With that interception, CB Kamari Lassiter joins J.J. Watt as the only rookies in franchise history to record an interception in a playoff game.

The Texans got a steal with Lassiter, as he looks like he could be a top cornerback in this league after a year or two more, especially playing behind Stingley, who may be the best in the league. Lassiter had a great game, with a few pass breakups and of course a game-changing interception.
For a rookie to be in the same conversation as the greatest Texan of all time is special. And, he is only going to get better.
