Texans’ DeMeco Ryans already loves ‘big get’ Kayshon Boutte

The Houston Texans added depth at wide receiver recently, swinging a trade with the New England Patriots for Kayson Boutte. Boutte joins a Texans team in need of help at the receiver position. And he has already made an impact on this coaching staff.

Ryans spoke with reporters on Wednesday about his new receiver. The third-year head coach expressed how much he believes Boutte can impact this offense moving forward.

“Adding Kayshon was a big get for us. We know we lost a significant player for us in Jayden Higgins—hard to replace him. When you try to go out and find a guy with the caliber of Kayshon, we’ve played against Kayshon multiple times over the past couple years. He’s continued to make plays time and time again,” the Texans head coach said in Wednesday’s press conference.

Boutte is entering his fourth season in the NFL. In 2025, he showed he had some potential at the NFL level. He caught 33 passes while averaging nearly 17 yards per catch. He also hauled in six touchdowns, which was second among Patriots pass catchers.

As Ryans alluded to, the Texans lost Jayden Higgins to injury for the season. As a result, they needed someone who could come in and make an impact. The Texans head coach also believes Boutte has some untapped potential they may be able to unearth.

“I’m excited to work with a young player who still has a very bright and promising future, but he has that big playmaking ability already. So it’s been great to have him so far. We’ll get him up and rolling here as the week continues,” the Houston coach said.

Houston begins its 2026 season on September 13 against the Buffalo Bills.
