Texans' J.J. Watt calls out Ross Blacklock for 'stupid' and 'selfish' play

J.J. Watt unloaded on rookie defensive tackle Ross Blacklock after the Houston Texans' Week 2 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Blacklock was thrown out of the game after what Watt says was a ridiculous play by the 22-year-old, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“It’s stupid,” Watt said. “It’s selfish. It was a stupid play. It was selfish. I’ve spoken to Ross before."

“It’s a very selfish move late in the game, and it’s dumb. It’s very dumb to hurt your team in that type of setting for no reason.”

With the Texans down two touchdowns to the Ravens, Blacklock was tossed late in the fourth quarter after being flagged for shoving after the whistle. The incident wasn't clearly shown on the television broadcast.

Blacklock's play likely didn't cost Houston the game. The defense, as a whole, wasn't great, though it's definitely not easy trying to contain Lamar Jackson and the Ravens' offense.

Blacklock was selected by the Texans with the 40th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He recorded a 40-tackle season with TCU last year and was a Big 12 First-Team All-American for the Horned Frogs.
