The Chicago Bears Tight Ends May be an NFL Best Group

The 2025 Chicago Bears tight end group looks to be top tier in the NFL, depending on a couple of key factors.

The Chicago Bears first-round pick was a tight end. The Bears have a lot of interest in improving their offense, and the tight end position was one that they decided to work on. Now they have some great options in the passing game as well as blocking with the group that they currently have on the roster.

The Current State of the Roster

Currently, the Bears have the following players at the tight end position on their roster:

Colston Loveland
Cole Kmet
Joel Wilson
Durham Smythe
Stephen Carlson
Jordan Murray

Of this group, the only ones that are guaranteed a spot on the roster are Loveland and Kmet. Smythe is likely to get a spot because of the contract he signed. However, anything is possible behind the top two guys on the roster at tight end.

Could the Bears bring on additional talent at the tight end position? It’s possible, but what is more likely to happen is that the Bears end up trading Kmet away, especially if there is a team out there that suffers a major injury to their tight end group during training camp. The Bears have some draft value with Kmet, and he might be worth trading away for additional draft picks or talent at the defensive end position.

But for now, these are the players on the roster at tight end.

The Top Two Are Awesome

The Bears, quite possibly, have two of the better tight ends in the league with Kmet and Loveland. Kmet has not seen his full potential yet, and Loveland is a rookie who has a lot to prove. He’s coming off shoulder surgery and should be ready for training camp. Hopefully, he is, and you should cross your fingers because things never quite go the Bears’ way with some of the injuries that they have had in the past few seasons.

Fingers crossed that Loveland gets healthy and stays that way. And if Kmet can stay upright and remain with the Bears, Chicago will have a top-tier tight end duo that could be one of the best in the entire league.

It just might end up being the best.

What Comes Afterwards?

The Bears have a couple of interesting prospects at the tight end spot after Kmet and Loveland. Of course, Durham Smythe is an experienced tight end, having played in the league for eight seasons. He looks likely to be the guy who holds down the third spot at the position on the roster. The Bears might also like a guy like Wilson.
Just how many tight ends will the Bears keep on the roster? Four sounds about right for the 2025 season.

Training camp is going to be interesting when it comes to who will survive and make the final cut to earn a spot on the 2025 Chicago Bears roster.

The Biggest Surprise

The biggest surprise on the roster, at tight end, for the Bears in 2025 could be Joel Wilson. He might have what it takes to supplant Smythe as the number three tight end. He could stay on the roster. He’s an interesting prospect and someone who could see more action.

But honestly, the biggest surprise on the roster, barring any injury or ill effects from his current one, will be Loveland. The Bears will get a lot of mileage out of Loveland, and he could be one of the best tight ends in the entire league. The Bears need all the pass catchers that they can get. They need as many outlets for Williams to use to move the ball down the field. Loveland could be the best of the bunch when it comes to doing that.
