The Chiefs Cut 5 Players Following The NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to improve after failing to win a third consecutive Super Bowl championship last season. Many of the team's star players will be back, like quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce.

The Chiefs made seven selections in last weekend's NFL Draft, and they've made some corresponding roster moves by releasing a handful of players this week.

The players who were let go include tight end Anthony Firkser and linebacker Shaun Bradley, tight end Baylor Cupp, guard McKade Mettauer and safety Jason Taylor II.

The team also received an international roster exemption for offensive tackle Chu Godrick who joined the league via the International Player Program.

Firkser, who has been in the league since 2017, joined the Chiefs last year after Jared Wiley got injured. He appeared in three games for Kansas City in 2024, recording one tackle.

Cupp appeared in a single game for the Chiefs last year, but did not record any stats. The tight end joined the roster last May, and spent most of the season on the practice squad.

In addition to making room for their draft picks, the Chiefs are also freeing up space to add potential undrafted free agents.

We've seen several notable players emerge as undrafted free agents in this year's class, including former Colorado defensive back Shilo Sanders (Buccaneers), Kansas defensive back Cobee Bryant (Falcons), Oregon wide receiver Traeshon Holden (Cowboys) and Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei (Chargers).

Some notable undrafted free agents in the league today include Keaton Mitchell, Tyler Huntley, Eli Ricks and Jalen Redmond.

The Chiefs used their first round pick to take Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons at No. 32 overall. In the second round they took Tennessee defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott. To round out Day 2, the Chiefs selected edge rusher Ashton Gillotte and corner Nohl Williams.

The Chiefs rounded out their draft with three more selections on Day 3, taking WR Jalen Royals in the fourth round, Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa in the fifth and finally SMU running back Brashard Smith in the seventh.

We'll see how all of the new Chiefs players contribute to their new team this season and beyond.
