The Chiefs' Super Bowl Hopes Could Officially End Sunday

The Kansas City Chiefs are officially in desperation mode following their Week 14 loss to the Houston Texans.

Patrick Mahomes struggled in the 20-10 loss to the Texans, completing 14 of 33 passes for 160 yards with three touchdowns. His worst performance of the season couldn't come at a worse time. Now that Kansas City is 6-7, there's a real chance the reigning AFC champions will miss the playoffs.

"We know the chances are getting lower and lower, but I know the guys on this team are going to give everything they have every opportunity they get," Mahomes said. "You're just getting late in the season, and you're not going to get these opportunities back. That's a good team, but we had chances. We didn't execute at the right time to win it."

According to Next Gen Stats, the Chiefs enter Week 15 with a 15% chance of making the postseason.

Week 15 is do-or-die for the Chiefs.

Believe it or not, the Chiefs could be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention this Sunday.

Here's one scenario that could end the Chiefs' playoff hopes:

  • Chiefs lose to the Chargers
  • Bills beat the Patriots
  • Jaguars beat the Jets
  • Texans beat the Cardinals

If you take out the Cardinals-Texans game and add the Colts upsetting the Seahawks, that would also eliminate the Chiefs from playoff contention.

At the end of the day, Kansas City has to take care of its business against the Los Angeles Chargers to stay in the hunt. Nothing else matters at this moment in time.
