The Indianapolis Colts are sitting pretty after the first five weeks of the season at 4-1. And how they have done it has been even more impressive, with three blowout wins by 20 points or more. Their defense, however, has a couple of significant weaknesses. One being their second LB spot next to Zaire Franklin, where the team has tried countless options on their roster, but nothing has worked . Another area of concern is CB, with their starting outside spot being murky at best. Their starter for the first four weeks was Xavien Howard, who struggled mightily before retiring ahead of Week 5.
The Colts are open to making additions if they feel it will improve their roster, and a recent workout was focused on their secondary. The team got a closer look at former first-round pick safety Lewis Cine and veteran CB Kendall Fuller.

The Minnesota Vikings drafted Cine in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Cine had a very successful career at Georgia and was a consensus first-round talent; sadly, things didn't work out for him in Minnesota. The team moved on from him after just two years and 10 games played. In 2024, he played only one game with the Buffalo Bills and spent training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles this year. The talent is there with Cine, but he hasn't been able to utilize it to become a viable NFL player. With Daniel Scott now on IR, the Colts could use another body at safety, though, and Cine would provide a high upside option even if his floor is just a practice squad filler.
The more notable of the two players worked out by the Colts is veteran CB Kendall Fuller. Fuller has been around the league for a while now, as he is entering his 10th season since being selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He has started over 100 games in this league and started all 11 games he appeared in last year with the Dolphins. The Colts could use another veteran in the room to raise the floor of their second outside spot. They went that route with Howard, though, and it turned out to be a disaster. So, they would have to ensure Fuller is in good enough shape to be a viable option for them. If they elect to sign Fuller, I would expect him to be on their active roster sooner rather than later, given the team's current multiple injuries in that room.
