The Green Bay Packers RB2 in 2026 is Obvious

The RB1 for the Green Bay Packers is obvious, and that’s Josh Jacobs. Last year, Jacobs led the team in yards with 929, but it’s worth noting that he only had 4.0 YPC.

Now that Jacobs is 28 years old, I'm not suggesting that Green Bay should or will replace him as the RB1, but running back depth matters even more. The Packers' 2025 RB2 in terms of yards and carries was Emanuel Wilson.

However, Wilson is no longer on the team, and instead he’s on the Seattle Seahawks. With a new season ahead of Green Bay, here’s a look into what they should do at the RB2 spot.

The clear answer? MarShawn Lloyd.

Why MarShawn Lloyd Should Be the Green Bay Packers RB2

Outside of Wilson, not a single other player on the team had more than 50 carries last season. Once again, there’s not much competition in the Packers backfield, which makes me think the Packers feel confident giving Lloyd the job.

From a pure talent perspective, it's easy to understand why, and it feels as if this has always been the plan. Lloyd was given day two NFL draft capital back in the 2024 NFL draft, going 88th overall.

It's not as if Lloyd was ever an elite running back prospect, but people also forget that he was a very good player at USC.
