Patrick Mahomes Solid in Week 1 Victory

In his first regular-season game since returning from a torn ACL, Mahomes was solid for the Chiefs in their Week 1 win over Kansas City.

The veteran QB went 15-for-27 in passing attempts, with 184 yards through the air while adding two touchdowns and just one interception.

Yes, these aren’t the numbers that NFL fans are used to seeing from Mahomes.

But given he was coming off a brutal injury and this was his first game back, you couldn’t have expected him to do any better than he did in this game, which was a dominant win over a strong Broncos team that won the AFC West last year.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid put together a solid game plan to help the Chiefs ease Mahomes back into action while taking advantage of their big free-agent acquisition at running back, as the Chiefs received a big game from new RB Kenneth Walker III, who rushed for 173 yards and one touchdown on 23 rushing attempts in his first game for Kansas City after leaving Seattle, where he won the Super Bowl MVP award last season.

Veteran tight end Travis Kelce, fresh off an offseason where he married global music star Taylor Swift, caught three passes for 71 yards, passing the great Jason Witten for the second-most receiving yards by a TE in NFL history, with just Tony Gonzalez above him.

It goes without saying that the Chiefs’ defense was also terrific, as they did not allow a touchdown past the first quarter.

Overall, it was a vintage game by the Chiefs, who are looking to turn the page on a lost season where they failed to make the playoffs and prove that they are still one of the NFL’s elite teams.

Chiefs Among Super Bowl Betting Favorites

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Chiefs are among the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl this season.

They are fifth overall in betting odds at +1400, only behind the Los Angeles Rams, the Baltimore Ravens, the Buffalo Bills, and the defending Super Bowl champions, the Seahawks.

That shows you just how bullish the oddsmakers and sports bettors are on the Chiefs’ chances of making it all the way to the big game this season after completely missing out on the playoffs last year.

With just 17 games in the regular season, every single game counts in the NFL.

Starting the year with a big Week 1 win over a division rival in the Broncos, the team that won the AFC West crown last year, is basically a two-game swing in the standings, so it was absolutely massive for the Chiefs to start the season off on the right side.

There is still a lot of time left, and we all know that another injury to Mahomes can derail any hope of winning another Super Bowl.

But right now, based on what we saw in Week 1, the Chiefs look like they are back.
