When a 26 year old Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals lost to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI, many fans were sure that wouldn’t be the last time we saw Burrow playing for a Lombardi.
Four years later, thanks to a combination of devastating injuries and deplorable defenses, the Bengals have been back to the NFL playoffs just once and missed the postseason in three-consecutive campaigns.
Now heading into his seventh professional season and with more ending with frustration than not, Burrow told Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer his mindset about how long he wants to play has changed.
“I used to think I didn’t want to play very long, and now I’m like, I’m just going to go until I can’t do it anymore,” Burrow said.
This is good news for Bengals fans who – despite seeing Burrow make three Pro Bowls, win two Comeback Player of the Year awards and leading the NFL in both passing yards and touchdowns in 2024 – might feel they’ve been deprived of a chunk of his prime.
The former first-overall NFL Draft pick has played a full season just once in the last three seasons, starting just eight games for Cincy last year. In the one full campaign he did record, he led the NFL with 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns, but the Bengals still went just 9-8 to miss the postseason.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Those 43 touchdowns are the second-most thrown by a quarterback that didn’t make the NFL Playoffs. With that being said, can you name the NFL QBs to throw at least 30 touchdowns but miss the postseason?
Good luck!
