The New York Giants Fired Two Coaches On Wednesday

The New York Giants may have held onto head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen but that doesn't mean that all of last year's 3-14 staff will survive the offseason.

Giants owner John Mara has expressed impatience with New York's turnaround, warning that the G-Men's improvement "better not take too long." And now according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, two assistant coaches are being shown the door.

Per NFL Media insider: "The #Giants have fired defensive passing game coordinator/DB coach Jerome Henderson, sources say. Henderson had been with the team since Joe Judge's first season in 2020. Safeties coach Michael Treier was also let go."

After a fairly consistent run under Tom Coughlin from the mid-2000s to early-2010s, New York has posted just two winning seasons since 2013 — including nine years where the team finished its campaign with double-digit losses.

The Giants' defensive unit ranked in the bottom-third of the league in points, yards and turnover ratio this season and there weren't a lot of positives to point to on that side of the ball.

With that said NY's issues run deeper than defensive back coaches and there's a real question about whether or not anybody should've been retained outside of maybe Daboll.

Now that the team is no longer tied to Daniel Jones' $140 million contract — that's a start. But the Giants are going to have to hit on their third overall pick in April's draft.
