Happy birthday to five-time Pro Bowler, 1969 first-team All-Pro and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2010, Floyd Little!
Little was drafted sixth-overall by the Denver Broncos out of Syracuse in the first combined AFL/NFL draft in 1967. By the time the league’s actually merged in 1970, Little had established himself as a productive player with three-consecutive Pro Bowl nods. In 1971 he was the bell-cow back of the league, leading the NFL in carries (284), rushing yards (1,133) and total yards-from-scrimmage (1,388).
Little retired after the 1975 season as (at the time), the league’s sixth-leading rusher all-time and will always own the distinction of being the first Bronco ever to rush for at least 1,000 yards in a single season. He passed away on January 1, 2021 at the age of 78.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the players to lead the NFL in yards-from-scrimmage since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970 can you name in seven minutes?Â
Good luck!
