The Packers Are Counting On Multiple Players to Step Up for Offensive Line Success

The Green Bay Packers feel confident in their five starters along the offensive line. The team believes they know who the starters will be at each of the five positions barring injury and that this continuity could give the team a boost at this critical position. But the Packers are counting on multiple players along the offensive line to step up and play better than they have to make this work.

The Packers Are Counting On Multiple Players to Step Up for Offensive Line Success: The Tackles

The new starting left tackle will be former first round pick Jordan Morgan. Morgan will be taken over for Rasheed Walker who signed as a free agent this offseason with the Carolina Panthers.

Morgan has split time between tackle and guard over his first two NFL seasons. He has also been switched between the left side and the right side of the offensive line.

The Packers are hoping he will live up to his potential and establish himself as the team’s starting left tackle in 2026. Morgan has looked good at times during his limited action at left tackle but now has to prove he’s ready to protect the blindside of quarterback Jordan Love.

The other tackle will be Zach Tom. Tom has graded out as the team’s best offensive lineman in each of the last two seasons. However, he will be returning from a significant injury that kept him out of the team’s playoff loss in Chicago. The Packers hope Tom will be able to regain his pre-injury level of play.

The Center

The Packers opted to re-sign Sean Rhyan who took over at center after Elgton Jenkins suffered a season-ending injury midseason. Rhyan started last season as the right guard but lost that job due to inconsistent play. He did a slightly better job at center than he did at guard and his play at center improved as the season progressed.

Rhyan’s grades from Pro Football Focus were not very good at either position. The Packers are banking on the improvement Rhyan showed late in the season to be his new level of play at a minimum.

The Packers did add Jager Burton in the fifth round of this year’s draft. The Kentucky alum played both center and guard in college and could give Rhyan competition for the starting center job before the season is over, especially if Rhyan struggles again this season. Jacob Monk also provides depth along the interior of the offensive line.

The Packers Are Counting On Multiple Players to Step Up for Offensive Line Success: The Guards

The left guard will be 2025 free agent addition Aaron Banks. Banks suffered through a disappointing first season in Green Bay largely due to nagging injuries. Banks was supposed to add size and strength to the offensive line and help the Packers run blocking. That never quite panned out last season.

Banks did play a bit better later in the season when he was healthier. The Packers are counting on Banks to return to his pre-injury form and provide the team with better play at left guard than he did last season.

The right guard will be 2025 second round pick Anthony Belton. The NC State alum was drafted as a tackle but was inserted at right guard after injuries forced the team to move players to other positions.

Belton did not grade out particularly well according to Pro Football Focus. He showed flashes of ability at both tackle and guard but struggled making the adjustment to the NFL in his rookie campaign.

The Packers are counting on Belton to take a step forward in 2026 and to develop into a solid NFL guard. If this doesn’t work out, the Packers do not have a lot of depth along the interior offensive line.

Overall, while the Packers seem set with their starting five offensive linemen, there are questions about each of them as we enter OTAs. If things work out, the Packers could have a solid offensive line this season. But they will need each of these questions to be answered for that to happen.
