The Steelers’ Keys To Victory In Week 1 Against The Jets

The Pittsburgh Steelers play football this week. Sweeter words have never been written. Pittsburgh gets an interesting opponent in Week 1 with the New York Jets. It’s an extremely winnable game for the Steelers if they stick to the game plan. Both starting quarterbacks in the game are getting an immediate revenge game against their former team, but only one can come out on top.

5. Contain Justin Fields

The Steelers know Justin Fields well. He’s not the most prolific passer in the NFL. The ground is where he is lethal. Fields averages six yards per carry over his career. If Pittsburgh can make him throw the ball, they will be in good shape. Make him make mistakes. Week 1 shouldn’t be trouble if Pittsburgh’s defense is as good as advertised.

4. Keep An Eye On Garrett Wilson

Garrett Wilson is an incredible pass catcher, but the Jets’ wide receiving core doesn’t have much beyond him. Allen Lazard is good, but if Pittsburgh can limit Wilson, Fields won’t have many viable options left. Wilson and Fields were college teammates at Ohio State, so it’s likely that Fields will look his way when he’s in trouble. Putting the locks on Wilson will severely limit the Jets’ offense.

3. Run The Ball

Running the ball has long been something the Steelers love to do. It’s imperative to get Jaylen Warren involved early and often. Najee Harris isn’t in Pittsburgh anymore, and Warren got an extension; now it’s time for him to pick up the slack. Kaleb Johnson has to make the most of the limited opportunities. For now, it’s Warren’s backfield. Running the ball well will open the field for Aaron Rodgers

2. Create Chaos And Wreak Havoc

The Steelers’ defense has to wreak havoc in Week 1. Get pressure on Fields and make splash plays. The turnovers will come. If the Steelers’ defense can give the offense short fields, Week 1 is going to be fun. Fields has thrown 31 interceptions and fumbled the ball 44 times throughout his career. Now, T.J. Watt and company will be breathing down his neck.

1. Let Rodgers Cook

Broderick Jones said that Aaron Rodgers hasn’t mentioned wanting revenge on the Jets, but everybody knows he does. Rodgers reasonably took exception to the way Aaron Glenn treated him on his way out of New York. He won’t say it, but he would love to send the Jets home with a loss in Week 1. Aaron Rodgers never forgets.

End Of My Steelers Rant

The NFL is unpredictable. Anything can happen on any given Sunday, but the Steelers shouldn’t have issues in Week 1 of the NFL season. Rodgers and DK Metcalf didn’t play in any preseason games. It might take a second for them to knock off the rust, but Pittsburgh should win in Week 1. The restless fans will call for heads if they don’t.
