The October hot seat

The October hot seat
Imagn - USA Today

We're not even through Week 5, and there are already a handful of Jay Gruden prop bets as to whether he'll still be employed come Monday. The NFL coaching hot seat is no joke, and BetOnline features future prop bets as far out as who they think will be coaching the Redskins come Week 1 of the 2020 season. As is often the case, Gruden isn't the only coach praying a pink slip doesn't hit his desk before the 2019 season ends.

All odds via BetOnline unless noted.

First head coach to lose his job during 2019 regular season?

First head coach to lose his job during 2019 regular season?
Imagn - USA Today

Favorites: Jay Gruden (-200) | Dan Quinn (+400)

Dan Quinn's latest setback was his Falcons laying an egg at home in a 24-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Atlanta is now 1-3 on the season, and with injuries piling up and one of the league's worst offensive lines, one wonders if Matt Ryan's health and Quinn's job are safe.

Ahead of their game against the Patriots and before he named Colt McCoy the starter, Gruden said that the Redskins didn't have a plan at quarterback as Case Keenum remains ineffective, Dwayne Haskins isn't ready and McCoy is coming off injury. This well-oiled machine is why most believe Gruden is toast before the end of the month.

The Bet: Gruden

Chase Daniel - Total passing yards Week 5

Chase Daniel - Total passing yards Week 5
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: OVER 237.5 (-115) | UNDER 237.5 (-115)

With Mitch Trubisky on the mend, Daniel gets the start in London against the Raiders. He's only started four of his 63 NFL games but fared well in two 2018 starts for Chicago, where he averaged 257.5 pass yards per game. The Raiders secondary has allowed 281 pass yards per game through the first month of the season.

Matt Barkley - Total passing yards Week 5

Matt Barkley - Total passing yards Week 5
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: OVER 219.5 (-115) | UNDER 219.5 (-115)

Buffalo's Josh Allen took a vicious hit toward the end of the Week 4 contest against the Patriots, remains in concussion protocol and will not play against the Titans this weekend. Barkley lit up the Jets in his one start last season. He finished with 232 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, but that was then, and that was the Jets. Tennessee's defense is among the more underrated units in the NFL. The Titans have allowed fewer than 16 points per game through the first four weeks. With Allen, the Bills offense appeared stoic, and I don't expect much to change in this tough matchup.

Total yards allowed by Ravens defense in Week 5

Total yards allowed by Ravens defense in Week 5
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Over 400.5 (-105) | Under 400.5 (-115)

The once lauded Ravens defensive dynasty crumbled in recent years and has allowed 395.3 yards per game this season. Rival Cleveland racked up 530 yards just last week, but this week's matchup against the Steelers is a different story. Rookie quarterback Mason Rudolph still looks shaky in the pocket, and James Conner has yet to get the running game cookin'. This is a great spot for Baltimore's defense to reboot its system, clamp down and rush a young passer. Heck, the Bengals' porous defense only allowed 326 yards.

Who will be Jaguars' starter Week 1 2020 regular season?

Who will be Jaguars' starter Week 1 2020 regular season?
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Gardner Minshew (-110) | Other (-130)

After years of believing Blake Bortles was their franchise savior, the Jaguars moved on to Nick Foles with the thought he could be a bridge at quarterback until Minshew or another quarterback came along. As luck should have it, the rookie quarterback out of Washington State appears to the be the truth. The Jaguars offense is in a little bit of a flow since he became the starter. As for whether or not he'll start Week 1 of next season, keep in mind how often NFL players get injured. For right now, that's the only thing standing in Minshew's way.

The Bet: Minshew

Will Devin McCourty get an INT in Week 5?

Will Devin McCourty get an INT in Week 5?
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Yes (+300) | No (-300)

McCourty finished with one interception all of last season, including the playoffs. Through the first month of 2019, he's recorded a pick in each of the first four games. This Sunday, he'll face Colt McCoy, who hasn't played in a game since breaking his leg last December. Expect a lot of rust, which secondaries can feast on as a mistimed pass can lead to a tipped ball and then the tip drill begins. However, for McCourty to record just one pick all of last season and then at least one in each of the first four this season seems to be more luck than talent. He was in the right place at the right time last week, and he'll need to be again for the streak to extend to five games.

Odds John Elway will be Broncos GM in Week 1 of 2020 season

Odds John Elway will be Broncos GM in Week 1 of 2020 season
USA TODAY Sports

Odds: Yes (+140) | No (-180)

It's hard to imagine the Broncos and John Elway breaking up, but the Denver franchise hasn't been right since Peyton Manning retired. At 0-4 this season and with Bradley Chubb out with a torn ACL, it's another lost season in the Mile High City. As a general manager, Elway has been unable to find the right recipe of talent to cook up a winner. Joe Flacco is a placeholder, but hiring defensive guru Vic Fangio appears to be a bust in the early going. At the end of the day, Elway may have lost all the cachet he earned as a Broncos player.

Odds Khalil Mack will have a sack Week 5

Odds Khalil Mack will have a sack Week 5
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Yes (-200) | No (+150)

Mack has recorded 4.5 sacks through the first four games, and the Raiders offensive line has allowed two per contest. Plus, when you factor in the Mack revenge game narrative, he'll go out of his way to show up Jon Gruden and prove that it was a mistake to trade him away.

Melvin Gordon - Total rushing and receiving yards

Melvin Gordon - Total rushing and receiving yards
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Over 75.5 (-115) | Under 75.5 (-115)

After a long and awkward contract holdout, Gordon will return this weekend and make his first start against the reeling Broncos defense. Denver allows the third-most rush yards per game at 149.3 yards per contest and has displayed no signs of improvement. Despite the great matchup, I think the Chargers ease Gordon back into things. His replacement, Austin Ekeler, has excelled in the passing game, and I think while Gordon earns his touches between the tackles, his pass-catching duties may come down the road.

Ezekiel Elliot rush yards vs. Packers

Ezekiel Elliot rush yards vs. Packers
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Over / Under 88 yards

The Packers will be without Davante Adams Sunday against the Cowboys. Green Bay's offense with and without Adams is striking. It'll lead to more opportunities for Ezekiel Elliott to bounce back after a less-than-stellar performance at New Orleans. In their last game, the Packers allowed the Eagles to rush for 176 yards and have allowed an average of 142 rush yards per game this season. This is a mismatch.

Baker Mayfield sacked vs. 49ers

Baker Mayfield sacked vs. 49ers
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Over / Under 2.5

After allowing 11 sacks through the first three games, the Browns offensive line held the Ravens pass rush to one sack over four quarters. However, the 49ers pass rush is no joke. The Niners average three sacks per game and enter Monday night's matchup fresh off their Week 4 bye ready to make Baker Mayfield life uncomfortable.

Jameis Winston pass yards vs. Saints

Jameis Winston pass yards vs. Saints
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Over / Under 300

Winston has enjoyed some great success over the past two weeks, highlighted by the Buccaneers' big win at the Rams last Sunday. He's averaged 382.5 pass yards per game during the two-game stretch, but I feel after an emotional win at Los Angeles, Winston regresses and struggles against the Saints pass rush this Sunday. Although a great matchup on paper, part of me thinks too much of a good thing is bad for Winston's development as a consistent quarterback. He'll flirt with 300 yards but fall just short with a couple interceptions.

A TE touchdown in Cardinals at Bengals

A TE touchdown in Cardinals at Bengals
Imagn - USA Today

My Pick: Tyler Eifert

The Arizona Cardinals can't stop opposing tight ends. Look at these opposing tight end stat lines (receptions-receving yards-touchdowns):

Will Dissly: 7-57-1
Greg Olsen: 6-75-2
Mark Andrews: 8-112-1
T.J. Hockenson: 6-131-1

Arizona has allowed five touchdowns to opposing tight ends through the first month of the season, and the Bengals just lost wide receiver John Ross to injury, which means more targets for Eifert.

Odds the NFL and NFLPA agree to a 17-game schedule

Odds the NFL and NFLPA agree to a 17-game schedule
Imagn - USA Today

Odds: Yes +300 | No -500

Injuries are mounting, concussions are still a serious problem, contracts aren't fully guaranteed and the league thinks it can extend the regular season by one game? Even with the next collective bargaining agreement (CBA), it's a long shot that the NFL Players Association would want to risk players' health for one more regular-season game when the average career of a football player is less than four years.

Odds to be awarded first overall 2020 draft pick

Odds to be awarded first overall 2020 draft pick
Imagn - USA Today

Favorites: Dolphins -125 | Redskins +300 | Jets +500

It's true the Dolphins are rebuilding, but if you've caught any of the Washington Redskins storylines ahead of their Week 5 matchup against New England, +300 appears to be good value. It won't be long before they name an interim coach to lead a quarterback trio of Colt McCoy, Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins. It's going to be a long season but an early draft pick for Washington.

The Bet: Redskins
