It's been months since the New England Patriots released Stefon Diggs, and the veteran wide receiver remains unsigned.
Now that he's been found not guilty of assault, it's been somewhat surprising to see him struggle to find a new team.
However, that shouldn't last much longer. He's arguably the best wide receiver still up for grabs, and it should be just a matter of time before he finds a new home.
Considering that, Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated argued that he would be an ideal fit for the Chicago Bears, given that they've traded DJ Moore.
"Diggs, who will turn 33 in November, still possesses considerable on-field ability, but teams may be wary, given the tumultuous events of the past year. Perhaps the Bears take a chance on Diggs because they need an experienced wide receiver after trading DJ Moore to the Bills," Manzano argued.
This makes perfect sense. Diggs wouldn't just be a replacement for Moore; he'd arguably be an upgrade.
That said, the Bears didn't part ways with Moore only because of financial reasons. They're absolutely stacked at wide receiver, so adding Diggs might be redundant.
There are only so many mouths they can feed, and with Luther Burden II, Rome Odunze and tight end Colston Loveland, they might want to put that money to better use and address their pass rush.
Still, Ben Johnson is an offensive-minded head coach, and he'd certainly figure out a way to get everyone involved in the passing game if they sign Diggs, just like they did with Moore last season.
Diggs may no longer be at the peak of his powers, but he's fresh off a 1,000-yard season, and while he comes with some baggage and unwanted attention off the field, the Bears will be under a lot of pressure to prove that last year's success wasn't a fluke.
