This Falcons competition appears to have just begun

Among the issues that plagued the Falcons in their loss to the Panthers, new kicker Parker Romo followed up a 5/5 performance in Week 2 by going 0/2 on field goal attempts in Week 3.

It put the Falcons behind the eight-ball early, and head coach Raheem Morris says they will continue to bring in competition until they get the kicking situation right.

The Falcons released longtime kicker Younghoe Koo over the weekend after he missed a 44-yard game-tying attempt in Week 1. Parker Romo was brought in ahead of Week 2 and seemed to cement his role as the starter with a perfect performance against the Vikings. But Week 3 was a sobering reminder that Atlanta’s kicking situation is still very much unsettled, and could continue to cost them games until they find a long-term answer.

This is a problem that should have been addressed months ago. The Falcons lost multiple games last season because of Koo’s misses, yet chose not to bring in any proven competition in the offseason, essentially handing him the job on reputation alone. Now, they’re scrambling for solutions midseason, a nightmare scenario for a team with playoff aspirations.
