Three burning questions for the 2025 Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have gone four straight years without a playoff appearance, and owner Jim Irsay wants to see that change in 2025. It is fair to wonder if the team has made enough offseason moves to accomplish that goal.

As Shane Steichen enters his third season as the head coach in Indy, the Colts are seemingly facing more questions than ever. Let's have a look at three of the big ones:

Who will be the Week 1 starting quarterback?

Few things in the NFL are more intriguing than a quarterback competition, and there will be one in Indianapolis this summer. Anthony Richardson is entering his third year with the team, and the former No. 4 overall pick may only have one more chance to prove he can win at the NFL level.

Richardson will compete with Daniel Jones, who signed a one-year, $14M deal with the Colts in March that can be worth up to $17M with incentives. While Jones' tenure with the New York Giants did not pan out, the money suggests Indianapolis believes he can be their starter.

It will be Richardson's job to prove that Jones is better suited as one of the highest-paid backups in the NFL. With a competition percentage of 50.6, 11 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions through 15 career games, Richardson is facing an uphill battle.

Can rookie TE Tyler Warren make an immediate impact?

The Colts have desperately needed a pass-catching tight end for several years, so Warren was always viewed as a perfect fit for them. The 14th overall pick in the draft was a monster last season at Penn State with 104 catches, 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns.

If he lives up to his potential, Warren will be the kind of tight end that gives defensive coordinators nightmares. He should also be a perfect safety valve for either Richardson or Jones.

Warren has the talent a player needs to make an immediate impact as a rookie. Anything less would be a disappointment.

Is Shane Steichen on the hot seat?

Steichen is entering his third season as the head coach in Indy. The Colts hired Steichen because of his stellar work as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, but the results have not been nearly as good in his current job.

Under Steichen, the Colts have had one of the worst passing games in the NFL. They ranked near the bottom of the league last season with just 197.7 passing yards per game.

Steichen's overall record with the Colts is 17-17. He must lead the team to the playoffs to keep his job.
