Time is ticking for this Eagles player (but it's not who you think)

When the Philadelphia Eagles traded away C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans, it was in the hopes of saving money. They also hoped to get a return on investment with offensive lineman Kenyon Green.

Entering offseason workouts, Green was expected to be a backup and potentially even be in the running for the starting right guard. The expectations weren't high, but enough for Eagles fans to believe he could be a good developmental player under offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.

After last week's only mandatory minicamp workout, Eagles fans got a clearer picture of what the lineups will look like. It's not looking great for Green going into training camp.

Green might be one foot out the door already

NBC Sports Philadelphia Eagles reporter Dave Zangaro shared his observations from minicamp, including the lineups the team had on the offensive line. The lineups were surprising as Green was initially projected to be a backup, but Zangaro said otherwise.

"Second-team OL (L to R): Kendall Lamm, Trevor Keegan, Kendall, Matt Pryor, Darian Kinnard

Third-team OL (L to R): Cameron Williams, Kenyon Green, Kendall, Hollin Pierce, Laekin Vakahali"

What turn of events for the former first-round pick of the Texans in 2022. Green has started 23 of 27 games he's appeared in, but missed the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury.

The past three years in Houston were turbulent for Green as he went through durability issues and not being able to stay on the field. Another concern was his inconsistency with his performance on the field.

It appears that Green is not only not being considered for right guard, but he is also competing with Trevor Keegan for the backup left guard job. Keegan has more experience in the Eagles' offense and has shown growth in potentially becoming the next great lineman on the team, so he would be slightly favored for playing time as a backup.

This only means that Green is going to have to really fight for a roster spot as he appears to be on the bubble entering training camp. If Green doesn't stand out early, Stoutland won't be afraid to let him walk.
