The Tennessee Titans had their fair share of issues during the 2024 NFL season. While the team was not incredibly talented, the franchise's new staff, led by head coach Brian Callahan, was only able to earn three wins the entire year.
This was the worst record in the league last season, so Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk chose to fire general manager Ran Carthon. Many thought that Callahan could be kicked to the curb in tandem, but he was given the opportunity to remain with the franchise alongside new general manager Mike Borgonzi.
Now, Callahan faces an uphill battle as he'll have to overcome years of poor roster construction and the highs and lows of having a rookie quarterback under center.
No head coach enters the season with a blank slate, and Callahan is learning this the hard way. Pressure is mounting for the Titans in 2025, and on Monday, Pro Football Focus' Bradley Locker wrote about 10 NFL head coaches who could be on the hot seat. Unfortunately, Callahan found his name on the list.
"Under Callahan’s guidance, Tennessee ended a woeful 3-14 in 2024," Locker wrote. "Callahan’s offensive success with the Bengals hardly translated, as the Titans ended the year 29th in EPA per play, 25th in success rate and 27th in average yards per play."
While it will certainly take some time for things to turn around, Locker is not letting Callahan off the hook.
"Although this team is still among the league’s worst in terms of talent — and years away from contending — Callahan will need to get the wheels moving in the right direction, particularly on offense, or he risks being fired after his second campaign," Locker added.
The Titans have a difficult schedule this season, as they'll play the AFC West, who boasted three 10-win teams last season, as well as the NFC West, who have several playoff-level teams as well.
Their journey begins in Week 1 on the road against the Denver Broncos, which will be a difficult starting point for the young team and their head coach, who is already dealing with uncertainty.
