Titans’ Cedric Gray Enters Concussion Protocol After UTV Accident

Tennessee Titans linebacker Cedric Gray has entered the NFL’s concussion protocol after being involved in a UTV accident in Tennessee over the weekend.

The Titans announced Monday that Gray was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred and that he sustained a concussion along with minor injuries. According to an ESPN report, a team source said alcohol and reckless driving were not factors in the incident.

The injury comes just days before Tennessee begins its 2026 season against the New York Jets on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.

Gray’s Status for Titans’ Opener Remains Unclear

Gray’s availability for the season opener will depend on how quickly he progresses through the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Players in the protocol must complete a multiphase return-to-participation process before they can return to contact football or play in a game. An independent neurological consultant will also evaluate Gray as part of the Titans’ protocol.

If the consultant agrees with the team physician that Gray’s concussion has resolved, team doctors can clear him to participate in the team’s next game. Until then, he cannot return to contact practice or game action.

The Titans expressed optimism that Gray will be able to return once he completes the required steps.

“We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL’s concussion protocol,” the team said.

Gray Coming Off Strong 2025 Season

Gray has established himself as an important part of Tennessee’s defense since entering the NFL.

The linebacker started all 16 games for the Titans last season and recorded 164 tackles, ranking fourth in the league. His tackle total was also a career high.

With the Jets game approaching, Gray’s absence would leave Tennessee without one of its leading defensive contributors to begin the season.

The Titans will kick off against New York at noon in Nashville on Sunday.
