Titans' Isaiah Wilson must decide 'whether he wants to do what it takes to play pro football'

The Tennessee Titans got nearly nothing out of first-round pick Isaiah Wilson after using the 29th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft to acquire the offensive tackle. Wilson played only four snaps, completed a pair of stints on the reserve/COVID-19 list, had a couple of run-ins with the law, and ended the campaign on the reserve/non-football illness list on Dec. 9.

Tennessee general manager Jon Robinson called the 22-year-old out when speaking with reporters on Tuesday.

"We put him on the reserve/non-football injury list and haven't spoken to him since," Robinson said, per Turron Davenport of ESPN. "He's going to have to make a determination on whether he wants to do what it takes to play pro football. That will be on him.

"I know what the expectation level is here, and it's no different than any other player on the football team. We have a certain standard that we want players to prepare and perform at professionally, and as people, and there's a lot of work to be done there."

Robinson added: "We did a lot of work on him leading up to the draft. The player that was here in the fall was not the player we evaluated."

After the Titans placed Wilson on the reserve/non-football injury list in December, Robinson said that the rookie was "dealing with some personal issues, which will take some time for him to work through." Robinson also said the Titans would "continue to help him and support him, with the hope that he can ultimately re-join the team."

That hope may have disappeared even before the start of the new NFL year next month.

Meanwhile, Robinson also said the Titans have "had some contact" with three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and free agent J.J. Watt.
