The Falcons just wrapped up their first day of joint practices with the Tennessee Titans ahead of their preseason game on Friday night. With Michael Penix Jr. not expected to play at all in the preseason, along with several other starters, this is probably the best opportunity for the team to gauge where they stand heading into Week 1.
If Day 1 was any indication, the Falcons should be feeling pretty good. The defense forced several turnovers, and according to Titans reporter Turron Davenport of ESPN , Michael Penix Jr. was carving up Tennessee’s defense at will.

It’s just one day of practice, and it’s worth noting the Titans aren’t exactly loaded with talent on either side of the ball — they did pick first in the draft for a reason. Still, this is what good teams are supposed to do against lesser competition.
One of the recurring themes of the Falcons’ preseason has been energy. Players and coaches alike have raved about the intensity and competitiveness between the offense and defense. Now, with the chance to test themselves against another team, it’s clear that all that talk isn’t just smoke.
