Titans To Sign DB Nazeeh Johnson

After Tennessee added ex-Kansas City regulars Tommy Townsend and Joshua Williams, veteran insider Jordan Schultz reports the team is signing veteran defensive back Nazeeh Johnson. The Chiefs drafted Johnson in the 2022 seventh round, when Borgonzi served as their assistant GM. He will join Williams as an option in the Titans’ secondary.

Borgonzi was Brett Veach‘s AGM when the Chiefs drafted Williams (Round 4) and Johnson in 2022. Williams received more time on defense, making 12 starts. Johnson spent more time on special teams, making just six starts (all in 2024) on his rookie contract. Johnson did see time at both corner and safety in Kansas City, offering Tennessee some versatility. Johnson’s only extended defensive run, however, involved 441 snaps at corner and only 40 as a box safety, per Pro Football Focus.

Johnson competed for a starting spot to replace L’Jarius Sneed — traded to the Titans in 2024 — but saw Jaylen Watson win that battle to start opposite Trent McDuffie. Watson suffered a broken leg that season, leading to more playing time for Williams and Johnson. The latter landed on the Chiefs’ IR-return list after a preseason shoulder injury last year, and he played in just two 2025 games. Johnson received interest earlier this year, visiting the Bears, Eagles and Giants.

These two do not project as Titans starters, but Tennessee’s CB depth appears much stronger as a result of the Chiefs draftees coming aboard. Tennessee was busy at corner in free agency, signing Alontae Taylor and Cor’Dale Flott to big-ticket deals. Both FA additions are ticketed for boundary CB roles, leaving a question in the slot. Marcus Harris, a 2025 sixth-round pick who saw time inside last season, may be the clubhouse leader for that gig. Johnson has taken just 12 slot snaps as a pro, while Williams has just 25 under his belt. The Titans did not draft a corner.

The ex-Chiefs, though, profile as intriguing backups for Taylor and Flott. While the Titans did not see Sneed deliver on a lucrative extension, Borgonzi will hope lower-cost deals — Williams signed for two years and $8MM — for depth players will make better use of the K.C.-to-Nashville pipeline.
