New York Giants' quarterback Tommy DeVito might be the biggest fan favorite in New Jersey. Tommy Cutlets has become a darling part of the fan base since his emergence in 2023.
DeVito gained fame in 2023 when he took over for the injured Tyrod Taylor, who filled in for the injured Daniel Jones, and led Big Blue to three victories.
Giants' fans were bringing Italian flags to MetLife Stadium and "Tommy Cutlets" became a folk hero and a media darling in the Big Apple by living in his childhood home and looking like a competent backup.
His agent, Sean Stellato, also became a dominating presence in the media as he was always cut to during DeVito's games. Fans loved to impersonate Stellato and his heavy Italian-American presence.
DeVito's agent blasted the Giants in a statement on Saturday, suggesting that DeVito would be a better quarterback if only he was kept healthy by a better team with better personnel.
"If he's healthy and get's protection, Tommy can start in the National Football League and be successful," Stellato said on social media.
It seems like Stellato is campaigning for his client to be given the opportunity to win the starting the job with Big Blue, who is looking for a starting quarterback. He has played well in small pockets and might be ready to take the next step with New York.
The Giants are expected to sign a veteran free agent and draft a rookie, once again burying DeVito on the depth chart. Stellato thinks they have a legitimate player in DeVito and that his client is fully capable of playing quarterback at the NFL level. In other words, his agent is doing his job.
"Tommy would love to stay. I think what will happen is he'll be here another year. From there, we'll see what happens," Stellato said. "But, he loves Coach Daboll, loves his teammates, loves his fans. It's close, but at the end of the day, you know it's an opinion-based business. It's a what have you done for me lately business."
Stellato implied that DeVito is ready to start in the NFL and should be given the chance to do it in New York with the Giants, given his experience and the current vacancy.
"He's locked in the lab. He's working five, six days a week. He feels comfortable. You know, I think he showed growth on his two starts. He didn't turn the ball over. You know, 31 for 44 against two playoff teams."
He started six games in his rookie season of 2023 and won three of them. In 2024, DeVito lost both starts and threw for just 257 yards on the season. He's looking to break out of the doldrums of being a third-string quarterback and become trusted backup. New York doesn't seem eager to give him that opportunity.
