The Kansas City Chiefs are all over the news for the wrong reasons again. Rashee Rice's jail sentence threw a massive wrench in their offseason plans.
However, the show must go on. Everybody has to keep doing their job to prepare for a bounce-back season.
Notably, that includes Patrick Mahomes, who's reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery from an ACL injury and might be available for the season opener.
With that in mind, Jason Kelce asked his brother Travis about the quarterback's true status in the latest edition of their "New Heights" podcast.
“Trav, do we get to have Patrick Mahomes on the field Monday night?” Jason asked. “Is he back Week 1?”
“That man’s working his a-- off. I know that,” Travis responded.
Unlike most athletes, Mahomes didn't wait before going under the knife, He approached his recovery right away, undergoing surgery almost immediately after suffering the injury to accelerate his potential return date.
He's already playing golf and working out, and with modern sports science, being back in Week 1 might not be entirely out of the question.
Of course, the Chiefs have been noncommittal and don't want to make any promises, but given the way he's moving and his history of quick recoveries, that looks like a realistic possibility.
The Chiefs seem to be operating as if he'll be available. Otherwise, perhaps Kelce wouldn't have come back for another season. He's watching closely and knows Mahomes' relentless work ethic, and if he's confident, Chiefs Nation should also like their chances.
