Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and brother Jason Kelce host one of the most popular sports podcasts right now. Their “New Heights” show has gained much notoriety over the past couple of seasons as the Chiefs’ star has seen his popularity rise, thanks in part to his high-profile relationship with popstar Taylor Swift.
But the show’s newfound levels of popularity should not take away from the fact that it has always been entertaining, and that the Kelce brothers have always been able to book some pretty high-profile guests.
That being said, it was their most recent guest, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, who raised some eyebrows this week.
Sanders, at one point, was considered by many to be a first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and perhaps even a top-three pick. But not only was he not selected in the first round, he was not even selected until Cleveland took him in the fifth, on the final day of the draft.
Indeed, Sanders’ slide in the NFL Draft was one of that weekend’s biggest storylines, and all eyes have been on the Browns’ quarterback situation ever since.
Of course, Cleveland also selected Dillon Gabriel in this year’s draft, and made him the backup to starter Joe Flacco after training camp was over. Sanders made the 53-man roster as the third quarterback, but has not seen any game action.
But his father (and college coach) does not think his son will spend the whole season on the bench. The elder Sanders told the Kelce brothers, “Be patient and be ready,” he said. “You got to be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you’re going to know. And it’s coming up. I got a prediction. I ain’t telling nobody. I got a feeling when it’s going to go down. But it’s going to go down this year. … He’s going to get a shot.”
As one can see from the quote, the Hall of Fame cornerback believes his son will start a game for the Browns yet this season.
Cleveland is currently 1-2 on the season, and the offense has not looked great in any of their games thus far.
