Tunsil Trade Seen As 'Elite Move' By Commanders

The Washington Commanders have flexed their muscles in NFL free agency by signing five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans.

After already getting Deebo Samuel through the door, and re-signings of Zach Ertz and Bobby Wagner, the first day of free agency saw Javon Kinlaw and Tunsil be added to a roster that made the NFC Championship game last season.

General manager Adam Peters is getting down to business.

With Jayden Daniels now having a top left tackle protecting his blindside, the 47 sacks (six-most in football) that Daniels had in 2024 aren't likely to happen again.

PFF has called Washington's trade for Tunsil an elite move.

"The biggest move of the opening day of free agency: the Commanders made a splash and landed the fourth-most valuable left tackle in football last season," PFF writes. "Tunsil has earned a PFF pass-blocking grade above 85.0 in five of the past six seasons. Adding a franchise left tackle to block for quarterback Jayden Daniels is an elite move."

Tunsil will lock down the left side of the line, and yes, he had penalty issues last season, but per PFF, he has a pass-blocking grade of 91.7 since 2022, which is the second best in football.

Yes, he is a little older at 30, but the Commanders get a quality Pro Bowl tackle who has made a name for himself protecting his quarterbacks really well.

Given Jayden's slender build, adding Tunsil while giving up a decent amount of draft capital is a great piece of business for the NFC East franchise, who are clearly in win-now mode.
