Two Notable Bears Players Leave August 8th Practice Early

August 8th was not a great day for the Chicago Bears simply because of the injury reports that came out of practice.

The Bears already suffered a tough blow with the injury to Coby Bryant, and the timeline is still a bit unclear.

While Adam Schefter reported on X that, “Bryant is expected to be sidelined 8-10 weeks due to a hyperextended knee, bone bruise and small fracture…” Devan Kaney posted on August 6th that, “Ben Johnson told us they are still in the info gathering stage with Coby Bryant’s knee injury and recovery.

‘I don’t know where you guys got [8-10 week timeline]. Hasn’t been said here.’”

The bottom line is that Bryant is not healthy at the moment, which means the Bears have already suffered one key injury during training camp thus far. Although it doesn’t seem like these two injuries reported today are nearly as bad, it still raises some questions.

1. Luther Burden III

According to Patrick Finley on X, “Luther Burden and Tyrique Stevenson land awkwardly during 1 on 1. Burden eventually limps off the field with a trainer. Seems to be leg-related. Tyrique stretched out his groin afterward.”

That said, Courtney Cronin, who also posted about the injury on X, had an encouraging detail in her post: “Burden walked into the building a little slowly but under his own power.”

With Burden being a player with extremely high expectations as the potential WR2 or even WR1 in 2026, this is going to be a situation to monitor closely.

2. Cam Lewis

The other notable injury today was to Cam Lewis. Cronin posted on X, “Lewis got hurt on the second to last play of the first end of game situation. Limped off and is currently on the sideline on the ground. Cart came out for Lewis, who sits stretched out on the back and is taken into the building.”

As mentioned at the top of this article, Bryant is already injured, and on the ESPN depth chart, Lewis is next up. The Bears are already not in an ideal spot in terms of their safety depth due to the Bryant injury, so this news is far from ideal.
