I’ve been covering fantasy football for more years than I care to admit, and every now and then, a player comes along who just has that special something. Tyrone Tracy Jr. isn’t your typical household name, but don’t let that fool you: this kid’s got the tools to be a league-winner this season.

Tracy’s journey to fantasy relevance reads like something straight out of a sports movie. The former Purdue wide receiver made the transition to running back look effortless during his rookie campaign, and honestly? It shouldn’t surprise anyone who watched him play in college. The guy has hands like glue and vision that would make veteran backs jealous.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. 2024 Stats and Fantasy Production

His 2024 numbers tell the story of a player who seized his opportunity: 192 carries for 839 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, plus 38 catches for 284 yards through the air. That’s RB26 production in half-PPR formats: not bad for a fifth-round rookie who many fantasy managers probably never heard of before the season started.

But here’s what gets me excited about Tracy heading into 2025: he’s scratching the surface of his potential. Those three 100-yard rushing games weren’t flukes; they were glimpses of what happens when this offense actually commits to feeding him the rock.

Sure, Tracy coughed up the ball five times last season, and yeah, that’s something to monitor. But let’s pump the brakes on the panic button here. Rookie running backs fumble; it’s practically a rite of passage. Remember when Christian McCaffrey had ball security issues early in his career? Sometimes great players need time to adjust to the speed and physicality of the NFL.

The difference with Tracy is his football IQ. This isn’t some raw athlete who’s still learning the position: he’s a cerebral player who understands how to protect the football. Expect those fumble numbers to drop significantly in year two.

The Giants’ decision to draft Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo in the fourth round has some fantasy managers spooked, but I’m not losing sleep over it. Competition breeds excellence, and Tracy’s skill set gives him a clear advantage in this backfield battle.

Here’s the reality: Tracy brings a receiving element that Skattebo simply can’t match. With his wide receiver background, Tracy runs routes like a seasoned pass-catcher and has the soft hands to make contested catches in traffic. That versatility makes him invaluable in today’s NFL, where running backs need to be weapons in all facets of the game.

Even if Skattebo carves out a role, Tracy’s pass-catching ability provides a rock-solid fantasy floor. Last season, he was targeted 53 times and hauled in 38 catches: that’s a 72% catch rate that would make some wide receivers envious. In PPR and half-PPR formats, the receiving production alone keeps him fantasy-relevant week in and week out.

The Giants’ offensive line showed improvement as the season progressed, and with upgrades at quarterback, the entire offense should take a step forward. That rising tide lifts all boats, and Tracy’s positioned to benefit more than anyone.

Here’s my bold prediction: Tracy finishes as a top-20 fantasy running back in 2025. His current ADP around RB28-29 represents incredible value for a player who could easily outperform that ranking by a significant margin.

The recipe is there: improved offensive line play, a quarterback who’s getting more comfortable, and a coaching staff that’s seen what Tracy can do when given consistent touches. Add in his receiving upside and natural running ability, and you’ve got a player primed for a breakout sophomore campaign.

Fantasy football championships aren’t won by playing it safe with chalk picks in the middle rounds. They’re won by identifying players like Tracy: talented individuals in favorable situations who are flying under the radar. Don’t let this opportunity slip through your fingers.
