Tyson Bagent will love latest Chicago Bears injury update

With quarterback Caleb Williams still on the shelf, Chicago Bears fans will be watching each injury update like a hawk. But Williams isn’t the only Bear banged up.

On Thursday, running back D’Andre Swift (hip/knee) returned to a limited practice. While Kyle Monangai remained out (thumb/toe), head coach Ben Johnson expressed optimism that he isn’t facing a long-term issue.

Furthermore, defensive back Cam Lewis (hip), who missed Week 4, has practiced in full back-to-back days. All three of Chicago’s current PUP players in cornerback Kyler Gordon (calf), defensive lineman Shemar Turner (knee) and linebacker Noah Sewell (Achilles) practiced in full.

Heading into Week 5, the Bears’ biggest storyline will be quarterback Tyson Bagent earning another start. He should be feeling a bit more confident after seeing Chicago’s latest injury update.

Chicago Bears offensive line getting healthier

Right tackle Darnell Wright (hip/knee), left guard Joe Thuney (pectoral) and right guard Jonah Jackson (ankle) all returned to a limited practice, the team announced. Nothing is guaranteed with their Week 5 status, but the Bears are now feeling a bit more optimistic.

No matter who is playing quarterback, Chicago’s explosive only works with strong play in the trenches. All three linemen have played irreplaceable roles in helping the Bears be considered one of the best teams in the league in that regard. Entering Week 5, Wright’s 92 grade from Pro Football Focus is the highest amongst 62 tackles. Jackson’s 84.8 mark ranks sixth/74 guards while Thuney (who currently ranks 25th with his 64.4 grade) was the inaugural Protector of the Year.

Losing any of the three would deal a potentially lethal blow to Chicago’s offense. But with their practice returns on Thursday, they at least seem to be headed on the right track. Still, the Bears will be tracking all three players carefully leading up to their Green Bay Packers clash.
