The injury hurts not only because Montaric Brown was out to prove himself in a roster of young defensive backs with lots of hunger, but also because he was on the path to great success. He was ranked as one of the main opponents in terms of starting snaps, particularly because the coaching team was trying Travis Hunter on the offense and the defense.

“It’s a bummer a little bit for Buster,” Coen said. “I love Buster, but it is always anytime that happens. It is completely a new window and opportunity for somebody else.”While Montaric Brown’s absence is a setback for his personal momentum, coach Coen assured reporters that the current expectation is for him to return for the regular season.

Opportunities Open for Others

The chance has come knocking on the door of Jarrian Jones, De’Antre Prince, and most importantly Hunter, who has been shaking up the headlines with his two-way signature play in camp. With Brown absent, the Jaguars coaching staff will be paying keen attention to the way the young corners react when given more reps against a talented receiving unit. “We expect him back for the season, obviously. So gives a great opportunity for Jarrian Jones, Travis (Hunter), to continue to get quality reps, (De’Antre) Prince, and some of these guys to continue to get reps,” Coen explained.

Training Camp Moving Forward

The level of intensity and competitiveness at Miller Electric Center has not been affected by the injury of Montaric Brown. With other camp standouts stepping up and the coaching staff embracing flexibility on the depth chart, Jaguars fans should keep a close eye on how these developing defenders perform in the coming weeks. Assuming Brwon returns Week 1, then Jacksonville will have both depth and a new dose of experience to the defensive backfield, a very important advantage in a tough AFC South race.
