Meyer compares Jags' win over Miami to nat'l title victories

Urban Meyer: Jaguars' win over Dolphins similar to national championship victories

The Jacksonville Jaguars earned their first victory of the season and first under head coach Urban Meyer via Sunday's 23-20 win over the Miami Dolphins at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London:

As Michael DiRocco explained for ESPN, Meyer won three national championships during his college coaching career and compared how he and his players felt shortly after Sunday's result to those accomplishments.

"I think it was," Meyer explained when making the comparison. "Maybe even including some of those big ones [national championships]."

Meyer's brief tenure with the Jaguars has been tumultuous. The franchise was fined in the summer for a reported contact violation between receivers and defensive backs during 11-on-11 drills, and Meyer was fined $100,000 as part of the league's punishment. Meyer then had to privately and publicly apologize to his players after embarrassing videos of him interacting with a young woman who was not his wife at a bar in Columbus went viral following Jacksonville's loss at the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 30.

Jaguars rookie quarterback and 2021 No. 1 overall draft pick Trevor Lawrence later stuck up for his coach. Lawrence and company now get some extra rest during the bye week ahead of a matchup at the Seattle Seahawks on Halloween.
