Vic Fangio says what no Eagles fan thought after CB struggles in preseason win

The expectation was that after Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo struggled mightily in the team's win over the Cincinnati Bengals in preseason that there was going to be backlash from defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Not the case though. Honestly, the polar opposite.

Fangio spoke to the media before the Eagles' practice where he was asked about Jackson and Ringo's tough performance against the Bengals. The former Denver Broncos is embracing the fact that they had their tough test and is looking forward to seeing how they respond.

“Obviously, they had some tough assignments in that game going against that quarterback and those receivers, but I think it's a great learning experience for both of them. Hopefully, they'll both come back. Kelee had some more balls thrown his way than Adoree' did. I think it's great that happened. We'll see how much they grow from that."

Fangio didn't shy away from competition at the position, but seems prepared to take it head on

Prior to that questions about Jackson and Ringo, Fangio was asked whether Eagles' newly acquired cornerback Jakorian Bennett would be in the conversation for the CB2 job with Ringo and Jackson. Fangio didn't shy away from it as it is "possible" but wants Bennett to be focused on learning the defense first.

It's good that Fangio hasn't hit the panic button like most Eagles fans and media have after the Bengals preseason game. Ringo and Jackson took their lumps against Ja'Marr Chase, including Ringo missing a tackle that turned into a 36-yard touchdown for Chase in the first quarter.

One positive to take away from their performances was from Jackson who had some nice open field tackles. Otherwise, it was a scary scene for Eagles fans to see them both struggle so much.

The season is young as there are two more preseason games to go for Ringo and Jackson to stake their claim into the CB2 job, but improvement is needed if the Eagles want to get back into the Super Bowl conversation for a second consecutive season.
