Clearly, Von Miller is not ready to retire.
After his brief stint with the Washington Commanders, Miller has made it clear that he intends to continue playing this season, as he looks to extend a career that has already secured his place among the NFL’s top defensive players.
The 37-year-old linebacker appeared in all 17 games for the Commanders last season, tallying nine sacks—his highest since 2021. He only had a one-year deal in Washington.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Legwold, Miller is quite confident that he will land with another team this season, but if he had his choice, he would reunite with the Denver Broncos.
“Von Miller said Wednesday that he is ‘for sure’ playing for somebody in the 2026 season and that he has already lobbied Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton for his former team to sign him,” wrote Legwold.
Miller played for the Broncos from 2011 to 2021, winning a Super Bowl ring and the Super Bowl MVP in 2016. He had his best years in Denver, becoming a Defensive Rookie of the Year, a three-time All-Pro First Team member, a four-time All-Pro Second Team member, and an eight-time Pro Bowler. He was also named to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team.
He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams for two draft picks.
Legwold noted that Miller talked to Payton at a flag football event in Los Angeles in April.
Miller stressed that he still has a lot of gas left in the tank.
“I don’t want to pat myself on the back, but at 37 years old, I can still roll out of bed and still rush the quarterback. I’m still a great guy in the locker room, I bring great energy, and I make sure everybody is ready to go,” said the two-time Super Bowl champion.
The Broncos are loaded with linebackers, including Nik Bonitto, Jonathon Cooper, Alex Singleton, Drew Sanders, Justin Strnad, and Jonah Elliss, among others.
