It’s a wonderful moment when an aspiring prospect’s phone rings and he is told he is going to be drafted by a respective team. There was no exception when Washington head coach Ron Rivera called Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis to let him know Washington was picking him 19th overall in Thursday night’s first round.

Washington shared the unforgettable moment with split views of Rivera at the team’s draft facility and Davis with his family.

One moment in the conversation that sticks out is Rivera asking Davis if had he told his parents.

“Did you tell your parents? I want to hear them yell and scream now. Tell them, tell them, c’mon,” Rivera joyfully requests.

Davis obliges and tells his family he is going to Washington. The screams and excitement follow on cue.

Davis has the flexibility to play all three linebacker positions within Washington’s defensive scheme. He’s expected to start off playing the Sam position on the outside. He’ll also play Dime packages to highlight his pass coverage skills.

He may be considered an under-the-radar selection. Yet, Davis has drawn high praise and comparisons to three-time All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard of the Indianapolis Colts.
