Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are reportedly planning to marry before the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp.
The update emerged just after Kelce agreed to stay with the Chiefs on a new one-year deal rather than walking away from the NFL this offseason.
It also added another layer to the story of why the veteran tight end ultimately decided he was not ready to retire.
According to ESPN’s report on Kelce’s return, the Chiefs star said one of the biggest influences on his decision was Taylor Swift, described in the story as his fiancee and someone he plans to marry before training camp.
“A day after he agreed to return to the Kansas City Chiefs for his 14th season, tight end Travis Kelce shared that one of the biggest influences in continuing his NFL career was not a member of the organization.
“Instead, it was pop music star Taylor Swift, his fiancee he plans to marry before training camp,” ESPN’s Nate Taylor wrote.
The report came after Kelce appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and explained that Swift’s work ethic and lasting passion for her own career helped motivate him while he was weighing his future.
Kelce said seeing her continue to push herself creatively and professionally made him feel he still had more to give to football as well.
Kelce’s return to Kansas City was finalized when he agreed to a one-year contract worth $12 million, with a maximum value of $15 million, allowing him to come back for another season with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.
He also made clear that Swift’s support mattered during that decision, saying her example helped convince him that he was not finished yet and still had motivation left to compete.
The 36-year-old remained productive last season, leading the Chiefs in targets, receptions, receiving yards, touchdown catches, and receiving first downs.
Kelce also pointed to his love for the game, his connection with Mahomes and Reid, and the return of Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator as major reasons to stay in Kansas City.
