The Miami Dolphins remain winless in the 2026 NFL season after Sunday’s loss to the 49ers. They were massively outmatched by a San Francisco team with real Super Bowl hopes and lost 35-13. Seven of the Dolphins’ points came in garbage time, too.

Sunday’s loss comes a week after the Dolphins dropped their season opener to the Las Vegas Raiders, which means they’re now 0-2. They will look to avoid an 0-3 start, which begs the question: When’s the last time the Dolphins kicked off a season with three straight losses?

Well, it requires a bit of traveling back in time, as the Dolphins never started a campaign 0-3 during the Mike McDaniel era, for as up and down as that era of football was. In fact, one has to go all the way back to the 2019 season, when the Dolphins were led by then-head coach Brian Flores, to find the last 0-3 Miami squad.

2019 also marked one of the least successful years of this century for the Dolphins, and that’s saying a lot given their lack of playoff success in that time. When the season was all said and done, Miami had just five victories to its name, the second-fewest in a single season for the franchise since 2000.

The only worse year was the Dolphins’ infamous 1-15 campaign back in 2007, when they played in the same division as an undefeated New England Patriots team.

While the current iteration of the Dolphins is looking to avoid a similar fate to the 2019 iteration, they’ll likely join their company. After all, they’re taking on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, who have played as well as almost any team in football through two weeks.
