Where Do The Miami Dolphins Go From Here After Week One?

The question we are all asking ourselves is where the Miami Dolphins go from here after an abysmal performance against the Indianapolis Colts in week one of the season, losing thirty-three to eight. I know what you all are saying, and I will get to it as it is one of my three takes.

So I will get right into it and take a Deep End Dive into the Miami Dolphins disaster that was their week one loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Do Not Throw In The Towel Yet

I am going to address the elephant in the room immediately, and that is, everyone, please do not panic or overreact. This is just week one. I have seen many posts saying thank you, fans, and people already rattle off a ship on the Miami Dolphins when it is only week one. I cannot stress this enough: Some teams put up bad games here and there, but I think this fanbase has seen it too many times over the years, and they just think the season is over already when there are still sixteen games left in the season.

One thing I try to do here on DolphinsTalk is to be an optimistic person even after disastrous losses like today. I would only throw in the towel on the season if the Dolphins are out of the playoff picture and are officially eliminated from playoff contention. That is when I would throw in the towel. They can still win some winnable games on their schedule if all goes right, but if it does not, then we would be screwed. Larry Csonka even said in a tweet that the team was “unprepared” and “uninspired”. To have the most recent Super Bowl champion fullback on the Dolphins, say that is just sad.

But assuming the Dolphins see all the white noise around their team, they could address these issues. However, I just do not see that with a very thin secondary after Storm Duck went down today, as well as James Daniels. This is my take on telling you all not to throw in the towel yet, and if you disagree with me, that is perfectly fine.

Week Two Must Win

The Miami Dolphins next game is against the New England Patriots at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. They must win against the Patriots, and if they lose that game and start with two losses on the year, Mike McDaniel’s seat will almost certainly get extremely hot.

But if they win then they may still have a chance to do something this season and it is a short week as well as the Miami Dolphins will travel to Buffalo week three on Thursday Night Football to play the Bills in what will be a “legacy game” for Tua Tagovailoa who is coming off a two interception game and a lost fumble to the Colts so you know he wants to do well against the Patriots and Bills. That is how I feel about the Dolphins’ week two game being a must-win for the team.

Where The Dolphins Stand In The AFC East

The Miami Dolphins received some luck on their side, as the other two AFC East teams that played today, the Patriots and Jets, lost. However, as of the time of this article, the Bills have won. Next week, all four teams will play against each other, with the Jets hosting the Bills while the Patriots come south to play our Dolphins.

This AFC East is still up for grabs with sixteen games left, but for now, I think it is Buffalo’s division to lose, no matter how well the Dolphins play the rest of the season. But that is why you play the games, and we have seen crazy things happen in the National Football League before, so there is no reason to think the Dolphins at least have some hope to win the division, but if they continue to play like they did today, then they will be a bottom-tier team. That is my take on where the Dolphins stand in the AFC East.

Week One In Conclusion

So, how does this sum up week one for the Miami Dolphins? Short answer: not so great. To wrap it up, I started by telling you all not to panic and overreact over today. Then it was me explaining how week two against the Patriots is a must-win game for the Miami Dolphins.

Finally, it was where the Dolphins stand in the AFC East, considering if the score holds in Buffalo and the Ravens win. When I say do not panic, I mean it because there is still plenty of time left in the season for the Dolphins to do something. It is just a matter of time before they either win games and show they are changing their culture, or they make us feel they are the same old Dolphins.
