Where does Browns defense rank among NFL?

The Browns defense had another impressive showing in the team's 27-3 win over the Titans in Week 3. But where does it rank among the rest of the league?

Cleveland's defense ranks first in total yards allowed per game (163.7), rushing yards allowed per game (52), passing yards allowed per game (111.7), first downs allowed per game (seven), third down percentage (19.51) and points allowed per game (10.7).

In Week 3, the Browns defense held All-Pro RB Derrick Henry to just 20 yards and an average of 1.8 yards per carry.

It's certainly been a dominant start for Cleveland's defense, proving their acquisition of new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz was a great one.

The Browns' addition of Schwartz was the first hire of the cycle, which may just turn out to be the team's best move in another busy offseason.

Cleveland's defense was in the middle of the league last season, allowing 331.2 yards per game in 2022. Schwartz is certainly changing things for the better.

"Was very very very impressive," head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters following the team's Week 1 win against the Bengals. "Very proud of Jim and his defensive staff and the players. I thought they executed the game plan very well."

Schwartz is also using some of the Browns' top defenders differently. Defensive end Myles Garrett has played several snaps at inside linebacker, which has confused defenses.

The four-time Pro Bowler has 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble through the first three games of the season.

The AFC North is wide open as the Steelers and Ravens joined Cleveland with a 2-1 record Sunday. Boasting the top defense in the NFL can surely help the Browns take back the division in 2023.
