Why Ravens will be without Zay Flowers vs. Saints

The Baltimore Ravens are scheduled to face off against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday with the goal of beginning the season with a 2-0 record. Unfortunately, the club will have to play this game without star wide receiver Zay Flowers.

Reports indicate that the 26-year-old was ruled out due to the hamstring injury he’s been dealing with throughout the week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. After Flowers had a huge outing in Week 1, quarterback Lamar Jackson will have to look elsewhere in the passing game in Week 2.

“Ravens downgraded WR Zay Flowers to out for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints due to his hamstring injury,” Schefter reported.

The wide receiver room in Baltimore is thin right now, as injuries are plaguing the group. Jackson won’t have Flowers or Devontez Walker available on Sunday. Additionally, the Ravens placed rookie wideout Ja’Kobi Lane on the IR with a wrist injury, too. The club will have to rely on tight end Mark Andrews in the passing game, along with wide receivers Rashod Bateman, rookie Elijah Sarratt, Chris Moore, and LaJohntay Wester.

Zay Flowers ended the Ravens’ 41-23 Week 1 win over the Indianapolis Colts with five receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown. He was nearly unstoppable throughout that contest, as the four-year veteran got open frequently against Indy. Baltimore will hope the hamstring injury doesn’t linger, as the club will want Flowers to return sooner rather than later.

The Ravens will kick off against the Saints at 1 p.m. EST. It will be the team’s first home game of the season.
