As much as Kansas City Chiefs fans hate to admit it, you can't have NFL G.O.A.T. conversations without discussing Tom Brady. The future Hall of Fame quarterback spent 23 years in the NFL (20 with the Patriots and three with the Buccaneers) and won seven Super Bowls.
Chiefs fans certainly hope that Patrick Mahomes can be the unquestioned G.O.A.T. when he's finished playing, but right now, Brady still holds that title. Mahomes has definitely given Brady a run for his money, winning three Super Bowls in five years and going back-to-back, just like Brady did early in his career.
There's going to be a lot of comparisons between the two and Brady said that Mahomes reminds him the most of himself when it comes to active quarterbacks.
"What are the daily habits and the actionable things you need to do every day to put your team in a position to win? Mahomes is the one that does that the most often. He brings a consistent winning attitude to work every single day. In the biggest moments, you can depend on him the most, that's clear."
This isn't necessarily a surprising reaction from Brady considering he's always given Mahomes his flowers. While some players might be quick to throw out criticisms for a player chasing after their records, Brady's never done that. He's also been very complimentary of Mahomes and this is yet another example of that.
The comparisons are pretty obvious too. Both Brady and Mahomes won three Super Bowls in their 20s and went back-to-back at some point. Brady's early Super Bowl victories were mostly because of the Patriots' dominant defenses while Mahomes' first two titles were because of his offensive firepower.
What hurts Mahomes in the G.O.A.T. debate is that, not only has he lost to Brady's teams both times the two met up in the postseason but Brady's teams were never blown out in a Super Bowl. The three Super Bowls that Brady lost were nailbiters and came down to the final few plays. Mahomes' two Super Bowl losses have been blowouts, unfortunately and that will ultimately hurt his stock.
Mahomes has some work to do before he can pass Brady in the G.O.A.T. conversations but having Brady himself say that Mahomes reminds him of himself is high praise. Let's hope Mahomes can get five more Super Bowl wins with the Chiefs so he can leave no doubt in the debates moving forward.
