Why's Cowboys Nation Lying About Rico Dowdle?
Brett Davis-Imagn Images

FRISCO - Rico Dowdle has been a revelation, no doubt, a story of resilience while battling injuries during his career to finally emerge as the go-to guy for the Dallas Cowboys during this two-game win streak.

But "revelation'' doesn't have to mean "revisionist history,'' and that's what happening right now as it relates to many in Cowboys Nation ... fans and media.

Dowdle was a centerpiece of Thursday's win over the New York Giants as he rushed for a career-high 112 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, good for 5.1 yards per carry. Just a few days early, in a wild win at Washington, Dowdle totaled 19 carries for 86 yards.

That's a pretty good roll, and along with it comes an avalanche of dishonest "I told you so's!''

The Cowboys are a feel-good 5-7 and there is suddenly this movement that insists the record and the feels would be even better had Dallas simply "done the obvious'' and let Rico "star'' from the start.

"I knew he could do it dating back to last year!'' claim some. But how did they "know'' based on a 2023 season during which he got double-figure carries only twice all year ... culminating in a playoff loss to Green Bay in which he carried twice?

If everybody knew ... why did Cowboys Nation get so angry in March when they let Tony Pollard go? And why did Cowboys Nation get even more upset when they didn't sign Derrick Henry? And why did Cowboys Nation raise the bar of ire when in April they didn't draft a running back (from Jonathon Brooks on down)? And why did Cowboys Nation almost storm The Star with pitchforks in September demanding that Dalvin Cook be moved to the roster to "save'' the offense?

Dowdle is proving himself to be a capable NFL back, and many of us saw at camp that he should be the lead back over Ezekiel Elliott ... which eventually happened. But to make more of this than that - for Cowboys watchers to claim that in March and April andAugust and September they predicted "stardom'' for Rico Dowdle?

Pollard, Henry, the Draft and Dalvin prove that's a four-pronged lie.
